Senior Medical Science Liaison, Immunology (Dermatology) - Southwest Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines is recruiting for a Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL), Immunology (Dermatology) to be based in the Southwest territory, which includes Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada (Las Vegas), and Utah. The role is field-based with travel required.

About Immunology Our Immunology team leads in the development of transformational medicines for immunological disorders and illnesses. You can influence where medicine is going by restoring health to millions of people living with immune diseases.

Responsibilities

Provide fair, balanced, objective scientific information and education to opinion leaders (OLs), health care professionals (HCPs), and internal partners as required by scientific and business needs.

Serve as an established scientific and clinical knowledge lead on current and future J&J Innovative Medicine products per Therapeutic Area alignment.

Maintain awareness of current scientific and treatment landscape trends in the therapeutic areas of interest.

Build external relationships with identified OLs and HCPs and manage a geographical territory, prioritizing in-person engagements when appropriate.

Develop and maintain a territory strategic plan, including educational activities with OLs, HCPs, institutions, and community practices.

Possess foundational competencies in Influence & Results Focused, Communication, Stakeholder Engagement, Product & Therapeutic Area Knowledge, and Data Insights & Dissemination; collaborate with field-based partners to support healthcare providers and patients.

Enhance skills in agility, Change Management, Time Management, and Innovation; conduct activities in compliance with regulatory and healthcare guidelines.

Travel approximately 75–80%, with travel primarily within the assigned geography and some travel outside the geography as needed.

Summary

Consistently demonstrate strategic territory planning and the ability to build strong relationships within the territory.

Respond promptly to unsolicited scientific inquiries from HCPs, investigators, health systems, and academic centers, integrating scientific data including real-world evidence into practice.

Present data and information in a manner appropriate to the audience and request.

Execute plans for reactive and proactive outreaches in accordance with legal and HCC exceptions processes.

Integrate scientific data into real-life practice to meet customer needs and adapt communication styles accordingly.

Anticipate the responses of various individuals and teams and prioritize franchise customer-based initiatives while balancing administration and project duties.

Executes Research Initiatives

Leverage knowledge of care standards and Janssen-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials and the competitor landscape to facilitate external/internal research communication.

Engage with external investigators regarding unsolicited research inquiries and liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs and operations.

Provide clinical trial support to identify potential sites, resolve issues with enrolled sites, and participate in meetings (e.g., site initiation visits, investigator launch meetings).

Lead at least one scientific or strategic Immunology project; identify educational gaps and elevate team acumen.

Scientific Acumen

Actively participate in team calls, trainings, and journal clubs; understand current standard of care and share scientific news.

Attend and contribute to scientific conferences to gather and understand new information relevant to the company and the external scientific community.

Document and share medical insights; synthesize data for the MSL team and partners.

Allocate time for self-driven learning on the current scientific landscape.

Represent and support J&J at relevant scientific or stakeholder meetings including congresses, symposia, advisory boards and investigator meetings; participate in speaking engagements where appropriate.

Department Operations and Internal Partners

Complete administrative requirements timely and accurately (e.g., expense reports, activity documentation).

Maintain composure in uncertain circumstances with minimal direction.

Provide regional/local support to enhance sales training and field competencies in partnership with Sales Learning and Development.

Communicate and collaborate with field-based partners and other Immunology MSL teams on a routine basis.

Partner with others to lead or participate in large-scale projects; maintain understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines and internal policies.

Qualifications

PharmD, PhD, MD, or other advanced medical degree; NP/PA with relevant TA experience;

3+ years of relevant therapeutic area clinical experience; 2+ years of MSL or equivalent experience.

Significant experience giving presentations.

Ability to travel 75–80%, including overnight travel and some weekend commitments.

Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record; residence within the defined territory.

Preferred

Knowledge or experience in the relevant therapeutic area and/or Immunology.

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and remote technologies.

Residence near Indianapolis, IN or Joliet, IL.

Benefits and compensation

The expected base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750. This position is eligible for a company car through the Fleet program and may be eligible for an annual performance bonus. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and retirement plans in accordance with applicable plans.
