Overview
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Information Officer 1 located in Anchorage. This is a full-time permanent position. What You Will Be Doing
The Information Officer 1 is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Wildlife Information Center, serving as the team leader, and assisting in the training and advising of Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 positions. This role oversees the distribution of information to hunters and non-consumptive users about management areas throughout Alaska and coordinates with Division of Wildlife Conservation area managers to provide the public with accurate and up-to-date hunting information. The position is a primary point of contact for the public seeking information about wildlife resources, hunting and trapping opportunities, education, wildlife safety, and the operations of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Outreach activities and promoting factual information about resource uses are key components. Primary responsibilities include: Directing the activities of the Information Center and answering public questions in person, by email, and by phone. Sealing harvested wildlife as the Regional Sealing Officer and coordinating with the Hide and Horn Coordinator. Organizing and presenting data for reports, compiling information, performing basic statistical computations, and writing simple reports. Conducting fieldwork and assisting on research projects to inform the public about department activities. Qualifications
We are looking for individuals with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Customer Service: Provides accurate wildlife-related information to the public and supports information needs for staff, vendors, and the public. Attention to Detail: Pays attention to details and verifies correctness of procedures or information. Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed decisions and follows through to achieve organizational goals. Interpersonal Skills: Maintains effective relationships, demonstrates tact and professionalism, and handles confrontational situations calmly. Accountability & Ethics: Demonstrates a strong work ethic, punctuality, good attendance, and organizational skills with time management. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Attention to Detail Communications and Media Interpersonal Skills Oral Communication Writing Equivalent to those typically gained by preparation in journalism, communications, education, English, and related fields. Special Note: A valid driver’s license is required. This position may involve possession of firearms/ammunition. If you have a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, you may not hold this position.
