The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide patient care coverage 7 days a week, including various holidays, in the Emergency Dept. The PA’s role is to manage the care of ED observation patients and Senior Emergency Care Unit patients. The PA will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow through with the care plan, assess and provide medical care as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge, and practice in line with Professional Standards of Practice. Collaboration with an off-site physician is expected within an interdisciplinary approach. Under general supervision, the PA performs operational level duties as described in UCSD Performance Policy. The major emphasis is direct patient care delivery; assignments primarily involve management of patients with chronic and/or episodic health problems, with potential involvement in community teaching programs and patient education information. May perform other related duties as assigned. Note:

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). California Physician Assistant (PA) license. Current PA Certification from NCCPA. BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date. PALS certification. Minimum two (2) years of recent working experience as a Physician Assistant (PA) in an Emergency Department. Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes. Knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams and procedures (e.g., laboratory blood tests, X-rays, EKGs, biopsies, GI endoscopies). Ability to independently perform clinical procedures with autonomy. Strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data (PCIS/Epic preferred). Knowledge of clinical laboratory values and ability to identify deviations. Experience providing patient education and counseling, and developing and implementing treatment plans. Skill in patient interviewing and obtaining concise medical histories. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications

Five (5+) or more years of PA experience in an Emergency Department. High-acuity triage and critical care experience. Proficiency in independently performing common ED procedures (e.g., laceration repair, incision and drainage, splinting, wound management, airway support). Special Conditions

Must be able to work night shifts, and may be required to cover mid shifts or day shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center’s business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years due to credentialing eligibility. Pay Transparency

Annual Full Pay Range: $198,485 - $198,485 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $95.06 - $95.06 Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs.
