The expected salary range for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Grade 26, upon hire is $87,235 - $133,833.91.

Who We Are Looking For The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (CRNP-PMH) to provide mental health care services in the Adult Behavioral Health Program. This is specialized professional community health nursing work in an Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN) role as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner – Psychiatric and Mental Health (CRNP-PMH).

Responsibilities

Nurse Practitioner may assume the role of therapist for patients and manage the delivery of psychiatric services in conjunction with therapy.

Provide direct psychiatric clinical care services, including but not limited to comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, prescribing and administering medications, for individuals with severe mental health diagnoses; support their families; and collaborate with other providers as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Provide group treatment, make appropriate referrals, request laboratory and psychological tests, utilize results in the patient’s therapeutic plan, sign commitment papers, and prepare medico-legal documents when clinically indicated; provide therapeutic interventions alongside medication management.

Maintain appropriate patient records, data, test results, notes in charts, and prepare reports.

Qualifications

LICENSE: Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner- Psychiatric and Mental Health (CRNP-PMH) required; current RN licensure in the United States and NP certification in Maryland (MBON). Maryland accepts RN licensure from a candidate’s primary state of residence if that state is in the National Nurse Licensure Compact (NNLC).

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent post-licensure RN experience; at least two (2) years in Psychiatric and Mental Health, with one (1) year in community health nursing.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health Nursing or other appropriate nursing specialty; successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program. CCNE/ACEN-accredited PMH NP program preferred.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Master’s Degree or for the required experience, but not for NP program completion.

Other: Experience in culturally competent services for low-income immigrant populations; knowledge of evidence-based practices for clients with serious mental illness; ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams; Spanish language skills preferred for LEP clients.
