The Opportunity: General Manager, Aerospace & Defense Segment Nelson Miller Group seeks an accomplished General Manager to lead our $20M+ Aerospace & Defense segment, with a specialized focus on Human-Machine Interface (HMI) solutions. This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role for a proven operations executive experienced in low-volume, high-mix manufacturing within the regulated A&D environment. We seek a true Lean Manufacturing champion who can drive operational excellence, cultivate a culture of accountability, and align teams around clear KPIs and performance goals. Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership:
Develop and execute comprehensive strategic operational plans aligned with the company mission and objectives for the A&D segment. Performance & Continuous Improvement:
Drive performance metrics, operational KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives across all sites. Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize output. Customer Success:
Attend customer meetings and foster customer relationships. Financial Management:
Own and optimize the segment's P&L, with a focus on cost control, quality assurance, and maximizing customer satisfaction. Team Leadership & Development:
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, accountable team. Foster a performance-driven and relationship-based culture, developing talent. Stakeholder & Customer Relationships:
Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with leadership, key customers, strategic suppliers, and cross-functional teams to drive growth and ensure compliance. Manufacturing Excellence:
Oversee consistency and excellence in our complex, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment, with a focus on HMI. Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ITAR, DFARS, NIST, and CMMC2. Resource Optimization:
Manage all resources to maximize production output and minimize waste. Travel:
Ability to travel up to 20%. Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field. Working knowledge of Mechanical, Material, and Electrical Engineering with concentration in at least one area. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred. Skills/Knowledge:
Exceptional leadership, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal abilities. Experience:
10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in manufacturing. Proven success managing P&L over $20M within an Aerospace & Defense location or division. Extensive background in Lean Manufacturing, Process Engineering, and Continuous Improvement (e.g., Six Sigma). Proven experience with low-volume, high-mix manufacturing. Direct experience with HMI manufacturing is a significant plus.
