Job Description Reporting to the Head of Casualty, North America AXIS Re, the successful candidate will manage a portfolio of Professional Liability / Cyber Treaty Reinsurance business, in addition to other ad hoc lines of business. The Professional Liability - Cyber Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter will be involved with strategy and portfolio management. Originate and underwrite Professional Liability / Cyber treaty business in compliance with guidelines and within allocated authority, conforming to best practices, appetite, and efficiency. Build and maintain broker and client networks to support profitable business origination through the Reinsurance broker market. Drive strategy and portfolio management, including appetite, guidelines, and limit management. Track industry and market developments and present strategic discussions with clients, including how AXIS Re might help navigate changes. Participate in underwriting audits and monitor account performance. Maintain understanding of current issues affecting Professional Liability / Cyber lines of business in insurance and reinsurance. Frequent travel to service customers and attend industry conferences. You may also be required to take on additional duties and activities appropriate to the role. About You / Qualifications
Professional Liability / Cyber Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter will be a hands-on technical expert with a history of success at a top-tier (re)insurance carrier, focused on building a complex book of Professional Liability / Cyber Insurance/Reinsurance targeting parallel scale and scope. Candidates will have deep knowledge of the professional liability and cyber insurance landscape, and full life cycle portfolio management across: solicitation of submissions, underwriting analysis, preparing and issuing indications/quotations/binders, and marketing. The candidate should have executive presence, with success in communicating, influencing, and building relationships that add value to the AXIS business and contribute to longer-term strategic initiatives. What you need to have: Able to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience at all levels, including Executive Leadership. Working knowledge of actuarial and pricing concepts. Experience partnering with actuarial teams to price and structure reinsurance treaties/insurance policies. A thorough understanding of the underlying business. Strong focus on identifying client needs and flexibility in developing solutions. Enthusiasm for new business opportunities and creative thinking. Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows. Highly collaborative and versatile; able to work effectively independently and in a team. A strong grasp of policy forms, contract wording and pricing schemes; understanding of the role and impact of claims, actuarial, accounting and finance in underwriting. Excellent marketing skills to develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance intermediaries and customers. Able to make decisions when faced with ambiguity and changing priorities. Able to self-start and independently lead small projects of around 6 months duration. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline. What we prefer you to have: CPCU, RPLU, CPLP or other industry designations. Based in the NYC area. A minimum of 5 years of professional liability and/or cyber experience in insurance/reinsurance underwriting or brokering. Ability to build dashboards and data models using Power BI. Ability to perform lookups, design pivot tables and analyze data from multiple datasets in Excel. Strong industry relationships and respected by re/insurance brokers and insurers. Effective strategic relationship and portfolio management skills. Role Factors
In this role, you will typically be required to: Travel frequently to visit clients, brokers and attend industry conferences. Be in the office (or visiting brokers/clients) 3 days per week. Attend broker events in evenings and occasionally on weekends as required. What we offer
For this position, a base salary in the range of $260-290k is expected, based on experience and work location. You will also receive competitive target incentive compensation tied to corporate and individual performance, plus a comprehensive benefits package including medical plans, wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and more. This role is Exempt for FLSA purposes.
