Senior Environmental Engineer
– WSP in the U.S.

This opportunity is for our Columbus, Ohio office, with consideration for the Cincinnati, Ohio office. You will work with the Earth & Environment Team on projects primarily for the solid waste industry, including water supply, wastewater, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and environmental preservation.
Your Impact
Work with members of the Earth and Environment Team to provide direction and support existing client relationships.
Serve as Project Engineer for current and future projects, setting strategic direction for project execution with clients.
Independently manage and execute projects to meet compliance schedules.
Perform moderately complex technical tasks within a broad scope, plan and coordinate work for larger projects.
Prepare technical proposals and reports, depending on size and complexity.
Demonstrate competency in engineering, field supervision, technical knowledge and task management.
Motivate, train and mentor subordinate staff assigned to tasks or projects.
Work approximately 80% in the office and 20% in the field on projects including industrial/commercial sites with environmental considerations.
Prepare Remedial Investigation reports, Remedial/Corrective Action Plans, Remedial designs, and related documents.
Prepare components of investigation and engineering reports (data summaries, calculations, figures, drawings, specifications, and report text).
Provide technical evaluations and recommendations.
Act as point person for subcontractors and oversee field activities with junior staff.
Organize field work and assign tasks to staff specialists (Field Task Management).
Assist in subcontractor procurement.
Oversee drilling activities (DPT/Geoprobe, HSA and Sonic) and soil excavation, demolitions, and remediation system installations.
Review contractor submittals (equipment, Work Plans, QA/QC plans) and track payments, RFIs, change orders, and construction submittals.
Travel to project sites as required; may include overnight travel.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in environmental engineering.
Minimum 5–7 years of experience.
Strong computer and writing skills; proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to interact with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients and develop effective teamwork relationships.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Excellent time management, communication (verbal and written), and organizational abilities.
Ability to work independently with initiative and attention to detail.
Proficiency with technical and business writing, and with design software tools and related technology.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Project management experience with small to mid-size projects, including scoping and tracking hours/expenses.
Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations under applicable regulations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Self-leadership, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
Ability to lead and guide junior team members with QA/QC discipline.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Essential professional licensure/certification.
Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred; First Aid and CPR training desired.
