Under the broad direction of the Chief of the Air Quality Planning and Science Division (AQPSD or Division), the Assistant Division Chief will assist in planning, organizing, and directing the work of the Division’s program staff. AQPSD assesses the extent of California\'s air quality problems both regionally and within communities, and the progress being made to mitigate them; coordinates statewide development of clean air plans; implements California’s agricultural and prescribed burning guidelines; maintains the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB or Board) databases related to air quality, meteorology and emissions inventory; develops consumer product and architectural coating regulations; and applies practical and effective tools to use these data to explain the nature of California\'s air pollution problems in terms that may be used to design cost-effective strategies to improve air quality. In this position, the Assistant Division Chief will be responsible for formulating policy and strategy recommendations to the Executive Office and Board; advising and assisting in the development, planning, and strategic and technical evaluation on air quality programs and policies; directing programs related to the requirements of the federal Clean Air Act and California’s clean air laws; directing programs related to development of new emissions reporting requirements and community scale emissions inventories in support of AB 617; and overseeing the development of tools, procedures, and studies to provide sound scientific foundation for policy decisions. Duty Statement . Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency\'s discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards\' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required. The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
