Under the general direction of the Deputy District Director (DDD) for Program Project Management and Asset Management, the incumbent has overall responsibility for the oversight and management of the District's SHOPP, Minor, STIP Programs and locally funded projects. The incumbent supervises a team of senior level project managers, assigns work, and monitors delivery of capital projects within cost, schedule, scope and budget. The incumbent advises Project Management staff and DDD on critical issues that impact program and project delivery and represents the DDD and District Management to external agencies. The role includes leadership to enhance project-level engagement within the communities of District 5.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for telework. Telework arrangements are at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans' evolving policy. In-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate must be able to report to the headquarters location as needed. Business travel may be required. Reimbursement is subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses are the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Special Requirements
Pursuant to California Code of Regulations § 549.90, this position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP). Please read the entire job posting before applying. This is a Caltrans Promotional Examination.
Applicants must have a permanent civil service appointment with the Department of Transportation and meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Either
Experience: One year of transportation engineering experience as a senior level engineer in the California state service.
Or
One year of supervisory or managerial experience equivalent in level to a Senior Transportation Planner in the California state service, and two years of civil engineering work at the Associate Engineer level or higher in the California state service.
Or
Broad and extensive (more than five years) transportation engineering experience, two years of which are equivalent in responsibility to the senior level engineer in the California state service.
Examination Information
This examination will evaluate experience and education (E&E) against the class specification. Candidates should complete the STD. 678 and list all relevant experience. This process provides for examination and job-selection specific to the position. All applicants must meet the minimum requirement by the final filing date.
This examination will not establish a civil service list; candidates will not be transferable between departments. Out-of-Class experience may be considered with proper documentation.
