Responsibilities
Under the broad direction of the Chief of the Air Quality Planning and Science Division (AQPSD or Division), the Assistant Division Chief will assist in planning, organizing, and directing the work of the Division’s program staff. AQPSD assesses California\'s air quality problems regionally and within communities, coordinates statewide development of clean air plans, implements California’s agricultural and prescribed burning guidelines, maintains CARB databases related to air quality, meteorology and emissions inventory, develops consumer product and architectural coating regulations, and uses data to explain air pollution issues to inform cost-effective strategies to improve air quality. The Assistant Division Chief will be responsible for formulating policy and strategy recommendations to the Executive Office and Board; advising and assisting in development, planning, and evaluation of air quality programs and policies; directing programs under the federal Clean Air Act and California clean air laws; directing programs related to new emissions reporting requirements and community-scale emissions inventories in support of AB 617; and overseeing the development of tools, procedures, and studies to provide a sound scientific foundation for policy decisions. The role also serves as a member of the Executive Staff and represents the Board in meetings with legislative staff, State, federal, other states, and international agencies.
