Director of Maintenance Project Management – Inside Higher Ed

Position summary: The Director of Maintenance Project Management (MPM) reports to the Senior Director of Operations and Infrastructure in the Facilities Management Division. The Director of PMP is responsible for the overall managerial oversight of the Construction Project Management Office (CPMO) and for leading the development, strategy, assignment, execution, and administration of campus maintenance construction projects in all phases of project management. This role manages the annual Major Repair and Renovation (MRR) program and related sustainability and utility efforts. Typical projects include renovations, repair, maintenance, and customer-funded requests. Responsibilities include supervision of contracting actions and personnel, setting strategic direction, and implementing best practices with performance metrics. The Director of MPM should be a technical expert in building systems and construction project management and an experienced leader for a large organization.

Duties and responsibilities : Provide overall managerial oversight for the Maintenance Project Management Department. Set strategic direction for the department and ensure operational components perform effectively and efficiently. Identify and implement best practices; develop metrics to evaluate and manage performance. Introduce innovation and emerging trends to the department; maintain awareness of new methods, products, and systems to maximize efficiency and safety. Represent the department in monthly stakeholder meetings with senior leadership and university offices. Manage human resources and fiscal operations of the department, including annual budget development and collaboration with FMD Human Resources for hiring and evaluations. Plan, schedule, and budget Major Repair and Renovation (MRR) projects; establish team priorities; maintain master project schedule and long-term capital plans. Develop and implement work standards and training to support employee development and quality. Minimum qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications : Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), Professional Project Manager (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), or related credentials. Knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies : Licensed professional credentials as noted above or equivalent; ability to be registered in Georgia within 6 months of hire. Knowledge of modern construction principles, project management, and maintenance; experience in facilities operations and management. Strong leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally. Ability to interpret complex construction documents and coordinate with diverse university stakeholders. Ability to respond to emergencies 24/7; knowledge of business continuity and incident command systems. Budget preparation and monitoring; proficiency with standard facilities management software. Physical demands : Sit at a computer for extended periods; traverse active construction sites; climb ladders and work at heights with PPE; drive as needed.
