Overview

(PA) Sr. Physician Assistant, Neurological Surgery - 136398 at UC San Diego Health. Role provides patient care in Neurosurgery and coordinates with surgical services for brain tumor, cerebrovascular, general, peripheral nerve and neuro-spine patients. Works under the supervision of the APP Supervisor for the Department of Neurological Surgery. This role includes clinic and operative responsibilities, collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals, and potential involvement in research and quality assurance studies. Responsibilities

Functions as a provider of patient care in Neurosurgery and utilizes knowledge to deliver primary and specialized health care services. Evaluates healthcare treatments for outpatient surgery patients, coordinating with established surgical services. Participates in ongoing research and quality assurance studies. Acts as liaison to physicians, mid-levels, physical and occupational therapists. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a physician assistant program approved by ARC-PA. California PA license. Current PA Certification from NCCPA. BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a licensed PA in Neurosurgery, Neurology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, or Cardiology. Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, therapeutics including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics. Ability to perform history and physical examinations, identify major medical problems, and formulate plans of action. Ability to analyze and interpret data; capability to function as first assistant in operative procedures; knowledge of OR standards and techniques. Ability to maintain detailed medical information and to instruct staff in surgical care. Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices pertaining to medical care. Ability to write clear medical reports, progress notes, and clinical protocols; ability to write inpatient/outpatient orders. Effective communication with patients and health care personnel; ability to maintain good working relationships within the team. Knowledge of various treatments and modalities for patient care and well-being. Capacity to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment. Ability to counsel patients and families, particularly in delicate or death and dying situations. Ability to assess daily patient status and report to the physician in charge. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to write orders and document nursing/medical assessments accurately. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with neurosurgical procedures, including lumbar puncture, intracranial pressure monitoring devices, shunt management, and related procedures. Experience in inpatient surgical care. Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center clinical operations; familiarity with practicing in an academic setting. Experience with Epic EMR. SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must obtain UCSD medical staff privileges and maintain them; clinical advanced practice experience within the last two years is required for credentialing eligibility. Employment subject to criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Ability to work varied hours and locations; flexible scheduling with potential evening/night shifts. Primary locations are Hillcrest and Rancho Bernardo; occasional coverage at affiliate sites; primary location subject to operational needs. Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 (prorated if appointment percentage
