Accountants One was referred to a nonprofit organization in Raleigh, NC. This is in the education sector and needs someone who has worked with grants before. Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operations for the organization. Develop, implement, and monitor short- and long-term financial strategies aligned with organizational goals. Direct budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and long-range planning. Supervise accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants, and endowment management. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for the leadership and Board of Directors. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, nonprofit reporting requirements, and external audits. Oversee risk management, internal controls, and financial policies to safeguard assets. Manage relationships with banks, auditors, donors, and funding agencies. Monitor cash flow, investments, debt obligations, and financial covenants. Partner with executive leadership and board committees to support decision-making and strategic initiatives. Provide leadership for operational areas such as human resources, facilities, information technology, and auxiliary services (as assigned). Lead and mentor the finance and administrative staff, fostering accountability and professional growth. Support fundraising and grant initiatives with financial oversight, compliance, and reporting. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree (MBA, MAcc, or equivalent) and/or CPA, CMA, or other financial certification strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally with experience in nonprofit or higher education organizations. Proven success in financial strategy, turnaround, and stabilization within complex institutions. Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP), audit processes, and grant management. Experience with risk management, debt management, and investment oversight. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and oversee multiple operational areas. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with board members, leadership, staff, donors, and regulators. High ethical standards, integrity, and transparency in financial stewardship. Ability to thrive in a challenging financial environment, with resilience, problem-solving skills, and strategic vision. Significant nonprofit and/or education finance leadership experience. Grant experience Track record of successfully managing financial crises or turnaround situations. Strong analytical and strategic planning skills. Ability to build credibility and trust quickly with stakeholders. Commitment to the mission and values of nonprofit education. Application
