Admissions Reader (Admissions & Joint Degree Programs). We are seeking an Admissions Reader. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Reader will be responsible for written summation and evaluation of Master of Arts and Master of International Public Policy applications for admission during the reading season (October through March). The position is paid as unit pay with details discussed during the interviewing process. The expected number of hours will range from 5-15 hours per week, with the highest workload occurring during January and February. All work is performed remotely. Term of employment begins in early October 2025 and is expected to end in March 2026.

Responsibilities

Commit up to 15 hours/week.

Attend training sessions regarding the reading process.

Fully participate in the application reading cycle.

Read materials online, either in the office or at home.

Availability to attend meetings during office hours.

Inclusion in the post-reading committee review.

Information will be used in a confidential, non-discriminatory manner consistent with state and federal law.

Special Instructions

Works collaboratively and regularly with the admissions team.

Reader will be required to complete confidentiality forms and participate in staff-wide professional development meetings.

Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Word, OnBase).

Strong time management skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.

Ability to work effectively with admissions staff members.

Sensitivity to the needs of differing groups of students.

Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of diverse populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.

Some related experience with higher education.

Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Some experience with higher education, especially the evaluation of undergraduate or graduate applications is preferred, but not required.

Familiarity with Johns Hopkins SAIS and/or other APSIA member graduate schools for international affairs.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies follow the JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college coursework may be applied toward the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
