The employee provides independent professional vocational rehabilitation counseling to individuals with a diversity of disabilities to help them attain employment. Responsibilities include assessing medical, psychological, and vocational information; developing and implementing an Individual Plan for Employment with full participation of the customer; coordinating complex services; coordinating with internal and external customers; establishing and maintaining client records; and performing other duties within the scope of the position. The incumbent will develop employer contacts, arrange job placements, and utilize community rehabilitation resources to secure appropriate employment outcomes. The role requires interaction with customers and colleagues, adherence to timelines, and attendance as an essential function. Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to vocational rehabilitation (e.g., vocational rehabilitation counseling, psychology, disability studies, business administration, human resources, special education, supported employment, customized employment, economics, or other related fields) indicating basic preparation for working with consumers and employers. 2 years of paid or unpaid experience with individuals with disabilities or related roles, including direct work with individuals with disabilities in settings such as independent living centers, advocacy activities, employment-related experience, or human resources, recruitment, supervision, training, or other activities involving competitive integrated employment environments. Advanced Degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in related fields (e.g., vocational rehabilitation counseling, law, psychology, disability studies, business administration, human resources, special education, management, public administration, etc.) with at least 1 year of related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of theories and practices in vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling Knowledge of interviewing techniques and medical/psychological aspects of disability groups Knowledge of employment resources and vocational rehabilitation resources Ability to compile, organize, and analyze medical, vocational, and psychological data Ability to administer tests and analyze results Ability to develop and place clients in appropriate vocations; effective communication and relationship-building Background Screening
State of Florida requires Level 2 background screening in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. Selected applicants will complete screening, fingerprinting, and related processes prior to employment or volunteering. Benefits (State of Florida Employee Benefits)
