About the Role The client is hiring a Director to co-lead a 10-person Tax Department. This role combines executive leadership with a focused book of client work—no business development or client acquisition is required. The Director will set strategy and standards, elevate execution quality, and guide the team through its next phase of maturity while partnering closely with the firm’s other Tax Director. Responsibilities
Department Leadership and Quality:
Own day-to-day departmental execution and quality control across client work and internal stakeholders. Complex Compliance:
Review and prepare sophisticated individual and multi-state returns, plus entity filings for S corporations, partnerships, trusts, and exempt organizations. Policy and Process:
Define and maintain policies, procedures, and workflow standards; drive accountability and continuous improvement across the function. Team Development:
Coach, mentor, and direct staff—set goals, manage workload and timelines, and provide clear feedback and supervision. Collaboration and Culture:
Lead regular team meetings and promote cross-office collaboration, communication, and culture. Technical Stewardship:
Identify, research, and resolve tax issues; serve as an escalation point for complex matters. Financial Oversight:
Oversee pricing and fee proposals, track departmental revenue/realization, and partner with the Finance team on budgeting and reporting. Cross-Functional Partnership:
Coordinate priorities with the Tax Director based in Southern California and delegate projects to meet deadlines. Qualifications
Experience:
10+ years of progressive tax leadership within public accounting or an RIA, operating at Senior Manager or Director level. Credentials:
Active CPA or JD required. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, or a related field. Required Skills
Technical Breadth:
Deep expertise in individual taxation plus strong working knowledge of S corporations, partnerships, trusts, and not-for-profit entities. Leadership Skills:
Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and lead a department; meticulous attention to detail and time management. Tools:
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with CCH Axcess and CCH Workflow; Holistiplan familiarity is a plus. Preferred Skills
