Description
The Director of Compliance (BCBA required) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s compliance and quality assurance programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, payer requirements, and ethical standards in the delivery of ABA and behavioral health services. This role plays a key leadership function in maintaining clinical integrity, operational excellence, and risk mitigation.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance program aligned with BACB, HIPAA, Medicaid, private insurance, and state-specific regulations.
Conduct regular audits of clinical documentation, billing practices, and staff credentialing to ensure regulatory compliance.
Oversee incident reporting systems and ensure timely and appropriate resolution and documentation.
Train clinical and administrative staff on compliance-related policies, ethical codes (e.g., BACB Ethics Code), and best practices.
Serve as the subject matter expert on compliance issues for BCBA and RBT staff.
Create, review, and update organizational policies and procedures related to clinical, operational, and billing compliance.
Collaborate with HR and operations to ensure policy implementation and accountability.
Review treatment plans and behavior intervention plans for quality and compliance.
Support the QA team in ensuring fidelity to clinical protocols and ethical standards.
Serve as liaison with regulatory bodies, payers, and accreditation organizations.
Prepare and lead compliance-related investigations, audits, or accreditation reviews.
Work collaboratively with executive leadership, clinical directors, and billing departments to align compliance strategies with organizational goals.
Supervise compliance staff or QA team, if applicable.
Requirements Required:
Active and unrestricted BCBA certification in good standing with the BACB.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in ABA service delivery, with at least 2 years in compliance, QA / QI, or leadership role.
Deep knowledge of BACB Ethics Code, HIPAA, payer guidelines, and state-specific regulatory standards for behavioral health.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred :
Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field
Experience with Medicaid and private insurance audits.
Experience in a multi-site ABA organization or healthcare system.
Familiarity with EMR systems and clinical documentation tools.
