Staff Engineer - Data & Platform Engineering at GEICO. Base pay range: $105,000.00/yr - $230,000.00/yr. GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission. Within the Data Analytics and Vertical Engineering team, you will lead the design and development of automated solutions to replace manual Platform administrative tasks, build data pipelines, models, and reports, transforming datasets that can reach multiple terabytes, while championing innovation, best practices, psychological safety and continuous improvement. Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems Utilize technologies for data processing, reporting, and automation (Python, SQL, NoSQL, DBT, Apache Spark, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure tools) Develop data visualizations/reports (Power BI, Apache Superset) to support data-driven decisions Lead adoption of new features and tooling to enhance platforms Define and implement automation strategies across Power Platform and Power BI Design and build scalable automation solutions using PowerShell, REST APIs (Power BI, Graph API) and CI/CD Lead automation initiatives for user provisioning, license management, dataset refreshes, workspace lifecycle and platform health monitoring Collaborate with security, compliance, and data governance to align solutions with enterprise policies; integrate automation with enterprise systems (Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Microsoft 365) and enforce governance for environment lifecycle and access Lead proof-of-concepts and evaluations of emerging Microsoft features Develop enterprise-wide standards for monitoring, auditing, and reporting; provide executive-level insights on platform health, compliance, and adoption Participate in design sessions and code reviews; mentor engineers and share best practices Drive engineering and operational excellence, reducing manual effort and ensuring system reliability Qualifications

Advanced programming and big data experience with Python, SQL, DBT, Spark, Kafka, Git; containerization with Docker and Kubernetes Experience with data warehouses, OLAP, dimensional modeling and analytics Strong BI/ETL tooling knowledge (Power BI preferred, SSIS or DBT) Experience with Apache Iceberg and large-scale data lakes is a plus Strong SQL understanding (MPP/No-SQL/Cloud data warehouses) Experience architecting ETL and BI systems PowerShell scripting, Power BI REST APIs, Graph API, and automation frameworks Power BI administration (workspaces, security, governance) and Power Platform administration (Dataverse, flows, apps) Experience architecting CI/CD pipelines for Power BI/Power Platform (Azure DevOps or GitHub) Identity, access management, and compliance in Microsoft 365 and Azure AD Experience with enterprise orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow) preferred Ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps tools Knowledge of SDLC tooling (task management, source control, deployment, operations) Monitoring concepts and troubleshooting skills Experience with Power Platform and multiple data domains preferred Front-end development experience with REACT/JavaScript a plus Experience

8+ years in data/analytics/database engineering, big data technologies 5+ years data architecture/design, data warehousing concepts 5+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure or another cloud service 4+ years software development with SQL-based technologies 4+ years experience with open-source frameworks 4+ years experience with BI and ETL tools 3+ years with Spark and Databricks 2+ years with Microsoft Fabric/Azure Data Factory preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Analytics or equivalent Compensation and Benefits

Annual Salary: $105,000.00 - $230,000.00. GEICO will consider multiple factors when setting final compensation. Additional Information
