Overview

The Program in Public Health at Stony Brook is seeking to hire one instructor for a non-tenure track faculty position with expectations for regular in-person presence. The successful candidate will offer innovative instruction for courses in the Health Administration curricula and contribute to teaching and service in the department. The program is accredited by CAHME (MHA) and CEPH (MPH).

The MHA program is delivered primarily through an asynchronous online platform (Brightspace) with many students balancing healthcare employment with part-time study. The MPH program offers in-person courses. The Program in Public Health (PPH) also offers a PhD in Population Health and in Clinical Outcomes Research and has a strong focus on research and scholarship. The successful candidate should contribute to teaching with expertise in health care administration, strategy, finance, and quality improvement.

Responsibilities

Teaching graduate health administration courses and career advising MHA students, including faculty supervision with applied learning experiences in real-world health care and/or health policy settings.

Teaching load and advising responsibilities will be equivalent to 7 courses over a 12-month period.

Engage in departmental and institutional service as part of a teaching-focused position (approximately 87.5% teaching, 12.5% service).

Contribute to the development and assessment of competency-based curricula and engage in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications : Master’s (foreign equivalent or higher) in a health-related field. Healthcare experience. Demonstrated record or potential for excellence in teaching. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Experience working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications : Doctoral degree in health-science-related fields or extensive health care experience. At least 2 years of experience teaching graduate health administration courses or similar curricula. Experience in healthcare/health-related research and/or professional service. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and excellence in teaching and service.

Program in Public Health The Program in Public Health includes an accredited fully-online MHA program admitting 45–50 new students annually and an in-person MPH program admitting 30–40 new students annually. The PPH also offers an MS in Epidemiology and Clinical Research, a PhD with two concentrations (Clinical Outcomes Research and Population Health), and two advanced graduate certificates in Health Education and Promotion and in Aging and Healthcare.
