Overview

The City of Beverly Hills seeks an Assistant Director of Community Services to lead the day-to-day operations of the Community Services Department. The department includes the Beverly Hills Public Library, Recreation Services (parks, facilities, and programs), Arts and Culture Services (arts, culture programs, and facilities), and Administrative Support. The role requires collaboration with the Director to accomplish department-wide goals, programs, and projects, and to provide excellent customer service in a diverse workforce across multiple divisions and locations. Leadership will involve guiding and supporting the Department’s Commissions, representing the Department in the community, and ensuring timely achievement of department priorities. The ideal candidate will exhibit visionary, collaborative, ethical, and proactive leadership with strong managerial, communication, and critical thinking skills. Responsibilities

Lead and organize the activities of the Department's four main areas: Public Library, Recreation Services, Arts & Culture Services, and Administrative Support. Provide leadership to Department staff, ensure excellent customer service, and coordinate a diverse workforce across divisions and locations. Guide and support the work of the Department’s Recreation and Parks and Arts and Culture Commissions; represent the Department with the City Council, municipal organizations, the Beverly Hills Unified School District, and community groups. Establish and monitor goals, objectives, and priorities; analyze economic feasibility and community support for proposed projects and programs; lead capital projects to improve community assets. Promote a professional image to the City Council, City Manager, City staff, and the community; foster an environment of trust, professionalism, and employee development. Plan, organize, and direct capital improvements and department programs; manage large projects within budgets and schedules; provide staff training and performance evaluations. Act as Staff Liaison to City Council Commissions; prepare technical and administrative reports and presentations; build positive working relationships with colleagues and the public. Assist in budget development and monitoring; support policy development, organizational analysis, and program evaluation. Qualifications

Experience: Six years of progressively responsible recreation and/or parks experience, including three years of management responsibility. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Parks Administration, Recreation, Library Science, Urban Studies, or related field (Master’s degree desirable). Knowledge and abilities: Program evaluation, policy development, leadership, budgeting, supervision, and excellent written and verbal communication; knowledge of local, state, and federal rules affecting municipal programs. Desirable: Experience with joint powers agreements or MOUs; experience working with City Council and Commissions; capital improvements project management; ability to engage diverse cultural groups. Work Schedule

This position will be assigned a 5/40 work schedule and is required to be fully on-site during normal work hours. This position is non-telecommuting. Selection Process
