The Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT) is seeking a highly organized self-starter to fill the role of Director of Development and Operations. This position supports a dynamic team that works with faculty, students, law firms and leading tech companies to address cutting edge legal and policy issues posed by the internet and rapidly changing technologies. BCLT is within UC Berkeley Law, recognized for its program in law and technology and its commitment to equity and social justice. The department emphasizes an inclusive, equity-focused community and provides space for professional development and collaboration across employee groups. The Director partners with the Executive Director to determine the center’s mission and to supervise staff responsible for events, communications and student services. Position Summary

The Director of Development and Operations manages the administrative and development services of the academic research center, including finance and budget management, marketing and fundraising, events planning, IT, and human resources. General management includes long- and short-range strategic planning in partnership with the Executive Director. Responsibilities

Plans and implements a complete fundraising program for law firm and corporate sponsors, including developing and maintaining relationships with sponsor representatives (law firm, corporate, and advertising sponsors). Initiates and maintains communication with sponsor representatives; coordinates an Advisory Committee of sponsor representatives; identifies, cultivates, and solicits potential sponsors; maintains sponsor database. Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for funding; performs or supervises recharge administration, reconciliation, procurements, reimbursements, and expense allocation in accordance with UC Berkeley rules; monitors income and expenses against budget; prepares financial reports. Manages administrative operations in a small to mid-sized academic research center; applies project management skills; supervises center staff and student workers; assigns tasks and ensures completion; reviews workflows and proposes efficiency improvements; supports professional development; performs additional duties as assigned. Coordinates and participates in human resources activities including recruitment, employment, training, classification, scheduling, and HR/Payroll documentation; reviews timesheets and prepares evaluations and HR reports. Assists in planning and executing an extensive schedule of complex events; provides event and student activity support; engages with sponsors and partners on co-sponsored or co-branded events. With Executive Director and Assistant Director for Communications and Events, develops outreach strategies to all constituents; contributes to website content, newsletters and correspondence; supervises Salesforce database maintenance for contacts, sponsor participation and event attendance. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of UC budget, account and fund management, personnel management; or the ability to quickly learn. Thorough knowledge of law firm recruiting and marketing/business development practices; knowledge of channels used by advertising sponsors. Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting, HR policies for staff and academic employees; familiarity with events planning, fundraising processes, accounting, payroll, and contracts and grants regulations. Competency with Salesforce for relationship management; excellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written), critical thinking, and advising skills. Strong leadership, team-building, planning, problem-solving, and customer service skills; ability to use discretion with sensitive information; attention to detail. Ability to attend evening and weekend events as required; ability to work with diverse groups and foster an inclusive environment. Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UC-specific computer applications; ability to quickly learn new systems. Benefits

Salary range: $95,000 - $105,000 annually. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position eligible for UC Benefits. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. How to Apply

This position is governed by the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) agreement. This is not a visa opportunity. This position is eligible for up to 20% remote work, with arrangements determined with the supervisor to meet role responsibilities.
