Overview

TRIAL COURT STAFF ATTORNEY (Pasco Criminal Law) - State-Funded Office of the Court Counsel. This is professional and highly responsible work conducting legal research, providing oral and written advice to judges, and drafting orders and opinions for the assigned circuit judges. The work involves considerable interpretation and judgment in the analysis of legal issues, primarily on criminal postconviction matters. The Staff Attorney may also work on criminal trial and pretrial matters, and may also assist with legal issues from other divisions and the Court Counsel. Contacts are primarily with judges, judicial assistants, and other court personnel. All work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Staff Attorney. This position may be partially remote.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research and provide oral and written advice to judges.

Draft orders and opinions for the assigned circuit judges.

Interpret and analyze legal issues, primarily in criminal postconviction matters;

Engage in criminal trial and pretrial matters as needed and assist with issues from other divisions and the Court Counsel.

Maintain contact with judges, judicial assistants, and other court personnel; operate under the supervision of a Senior Staff Attorney.

Minimum Training and Experience Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in The Florida Bar. Law school graduates who are currently pursuing membership in The Florida Bar are eligible to apply but will be required to attain Florida Bar membership within one year if selected for appointment.

Salary

Florida Bar Member - $5,416.62 + $142.25 CAD = $5,558.87 monthly plus State benefits

Not yet a Florida Bar Member - $4,874.96 + $142.25 CAD = $5,017.21 monthly plus State benefits
