Overview

The Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director is a credentialed therapeutic and disease area expert (MD, PhD, DNP, or PharmD) who engages in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators. The RMSD provides balanced, factual scientific information about non-product areas of interest and responds to scientific questions from Scientific Leaders, including questions about Company data and products. The RMSD facilitates peer-level relationships with external scientific leaders and investigators and supports data generation activities for Company-sponsored trials and Investigator Study Programs as prioritized by R&D. The RMSD reports to the Regional RMSD Team Leader – within US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, Research and Development (R&D).

Primary Activities Identify, establish and manage collaborative relationships with national, regional and clinical practice scientific leaders (SLs) and investigators to address scientific needs and provide access to medical and scientific information on therapeutic areas and Company data or products.

Conduct peer-level scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence so SLs have a Research and Development (R&D)/Medical Affairs contact within the Company.

Engage in proactive non-product discussions on scientific issues (e.g., disease states, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet medical need, population health) to inform R&D/GMA and HH strategy or research programs.

Facilitate appropriate scientific exchange of information with SLs, integrating scientific knowledge with actionable insights to inform R&D and HH strategies.

Communicate external stakeholder opinions, insights and feedback on new data, clinical trends and the vaccine landscape to Medical Affairs HQ to inform internal R&D strategies.

Represent R&D at scientific meetings and contribute to debriefs, insight discussions and post-congress reports.

Develop and execute territory plans aligned with global Virology strategy.

Support data generation activities as requested by R&D leadership, acting as the primary liaison to investigators for investigator-initiated research (MISP).

Identify potential investigators for phase II-IV programs when requested by R&D leadership and provide scientific support for sponsored trials as needed.

Provide in-depth scientific support to Health Systems teams within USMA.

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the assigned disease area through educational efforts, conference attendance, scientific workshops, and review of key journals. Fully comply with company policies, laws, regulations and ethical standards.

Education Minimum Requirement An advanced degree (MD, PhD, DNP or PharmD) relevant to Virology and requirements of the position.

Experience - Minimum Requirements A minimum of 3 years in the biotech/pharmaceutical or healthcare environment.

A minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or research experience (beyond the terminal degree) in Virology/HIV (or related area) with demonstrated scientific excellence.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills.

Ability to travel up to 50% with overnights and reside in the coverage region.

Skills Required Deep therapeutic competency in Virology; aware of trends and new information.

Ability to network with external customers, including scientific leaders, investigators, clinical practice leaders and academic institutions, including treatment guideline members where permitted.

Ability to consolidate and interpret complex data, plan analyses, and summarize results objectively.

Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and ethical guidelines (HIPAA, OIG, etc.).

Strong organizational skills to prioritize work in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Capabilities Recognition for scientific excellence in Virology through clinical, academic and/or translational/basic science research.

Experience in clinical Virology and independent research/publications in Virology; late-stage clinical research experience desirable.

5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Virology (MSL or similar).

Prior experience within the coverage region and established Virology stakeholders relationships.

Demonstrated leadership and the ability to handle challenges within scope of authority.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Remote-friendly but HQ located in Upper Gwynedd, PA; reside within the coverage region.
