Senior Tax Accountant (Individual and Fiduciary) Overview

A successful Wealth Management Firm in Boston is searching for a Senior Tax Accountant (Individual and Fiduciary) to join their team. This is a heavy client-facing position and this person will be responsible for preparing and filing complex federal and state individual and fiduciary tax returns, charitable returns, and estimates. The role also supports strategic tax planning through scenario analysis and collaboration with legal and financial professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and file complex federal/state individual and fiduciary income tax returns, including quarterly estimates.

Handle filings for gift tax, non-profits, non-resident alien beneficiaries, and other specialized returns.

Conduct detailed tax projections to support strategic planning efforts.

Analyze trust documents to determine tax filing requirements.

Prepare and review amended returns, refund claims, and abatements.

Mentor junior tax accountants; review their work and provide guidance.

Support and participate in federal and state tax audits.

Assist in drafting internal tax policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field required; accounting or advanced degree in taxation preferred.

CPA or IRS Enrolled Agent certification required.

5-10+ years of experience preparing complex individual and fiduciary returns; 5+ years in a law firm, CPA firm, or trust department preferred.

Proficiency in tax preparation software (Onesource Trust Tax preferred).

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
