Overview
California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is seeking a Unit Supervisor in the Los Angeles County area. This permanent, full-time position is based at the Chatsworth Regional Office (Hybrid telework). Classification: Senior Engineering Geologist. Job Title/Working Title: Unit Supervisor. Job Code #: JC-491542. Position #(s): 810-513-3751-002. Work Location: Los Angeles County. Facility: Chatsworth Regional Office. Salary range: $11,437.00 – $14,315.00 A. New state candidates will be hired at the minimum of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties with hazardous materials, substances, or waste released into the environment. Guide staff reviews of site mitigation-related documents (e.g., Phase I, Preliminary Endangerment Assessment/RCF Facility Assessment, Site Characterization workplans and reports, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments), oversee field work, participate in regulatory decision-making, and communicate with responsible parties, project proponents, external agencies, and the public. Utilize high-level technical skills to oversee investigations and cleanup of sites with hazardous materials. Oversee and assist staff in evaluating appropriate sampling and mitigation techniques based on accepted scientific theories and procedures. Provide analysis and guidance for remediation technologies and preferred remedial alternatives; participate in project meetings, negotiations with responsible parties, and settlement meetings. Monitor staff reviews of site mitigation documents for compliance with standards, oversee field work per approved workplans, and ensure remediation meets federal and state standards. Desirable Qualifications
At least five years of experience with environmental assessments, investigations, and/or cleanup projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and data presentation skills. Experience in leadership roles. Excellent organizational skills. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.
