Performs medical tests in a laboratory environment for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases in animals. Prepares vaccines and serums for prevention of diseases. Prepares tissue samples, takes blood samples, and executes laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood counts. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and materials and maintains equipment and machines. May assist a veterinarian during surgery. Does this position require Patient Care?
No Essential Functions
Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical factors accurately. Perform basic animal restraint and provide basic animal husbandry. Take vitals (temperature, weight, height, blood pressure). Process patient specimens (blood, urine, breath). Prepare appropriate medical supplies for patient appointments. Maintains animal records by documenting animal conditions, reactions, and changes; updating database. Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patient’s assigned ASA II & III classification. Qualifications
Education: Associate\'s Degree in Veterinary Technology required. Licenses and credentials: Certified Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science preferred. Experience: 1-2 years in laboratory animal or veterinary care. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of Office Suite; strong communication and organizational skills; leadership ability; ability to work with staff at all levels; excellent time management; analytical and math skills; knowledge of accounting principles; ability to adapt to multiple and rapidly changing priorities and deadlines; knowledge of veterinary record keeping is required. Education: Associate\'s Degree in Veterinary Technology required; experience in lieu of degree not specified. Licenses: LAT preferred. Experience: 1-2 years in relevant field.
