Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a

Clinical Pharmacist Specialist

in the Pharmacy department who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence. Position

As a

Clinical Pharmacist Specialist , you will: Review pharmacy and organizational policies and procedures in regard to drug use and departmental readiness for regulatory audits. Serve as a clinical specialist resource for pharmacists, nurses and physicians. Provide clinical staff development services and instruction within area of expertise to pharmacy staff. Assist with evaluation of staff clinical activities and interventions. Document clinical activities that include, but are not limited to, disease-state management, pharmacotherapeutic monitoring, pharmacokinetic monitoring, ADEs, education, and other patient care activities. Act as a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director and ensure compliance with ASHP Accreditation Standards for the Pharmacy Residency Program. Coordinate, recruit and interview candidates for the Pharmacy Residency Program. Promote the use of the formulary when possible, but coordinate procurement of non-formulary drugs when necessary. Work closely with the Pharmacy Director and participate in quality assurance programs and clinical pathway development to enhance pharmaceutical care. Participate in the development of medication use management programs within Howard University Hospital including clinical guidelines, critical pathways, disease management, and drug use programs. Assist in the preparation and presentation of information needed by committees such as Adverse Drug Reactions, Medication Use Indicators, Medication Errors and other topics as needed. Work with the Pharmacy Director to develop advanced clinical services including pharmacy-managed protocols and programs. Actively serve as a mentor and preceptor for clinical staff pharmacists, pharmacy students, and pharmacy residents through example, training, and education. Assist with coordination of the organization’s drug utilization program and develop department-wide initiatives to ensure pharmacists monitor medication use by age, height, weight, sex and disease state to assure appropriate utilization, and interact with staff to suggest therapeutic alternatives that are safe, cost effective, and evidence-based. Act as an educational resource by developing and presenting programs to the pharmacy and hospital staff that promote the safe and effective use of medications. Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Completion of a PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency in a specialized clinical area from an accredited program. Completion of a PGY-2 Pharmacy Practice Residency or equivalent experience is required. Board certification is preferred. Position Details
