This is a new Consultant Paediatric Radiologist post, specifically funded by NHSE for paediatric liver services. The budget and governance sit under Child Health, while the operational aspects sit under Radiology. The appointee will join a team of 5 Paediatric Radiologists and 3 Hepatobiliary Radiologists. The role will be dedicated to paediatric radiology; the department currently provides the majority of consultant-led diagnostic and interventional imaging and Liver IR procedures in Kings, the largest paediatric liver transplant centre in the UK and Europe.
Primary responsibility : Contribute to all aspects of paediatric hepatobiliary radiology including Ultrasound, Axial imaging, vascular access, hepatobiliary vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology including tissue biopsy and drainage procedures. Related subspecialty MDM support is essential.
Main duties of the job
The Department of Radiology (Denmark Hill Site) is looking to appoint a substantive consultant radiologist to join a friendly, dynamic department committed to providing a timely, high-quality imaging service. The post will be based at Denmark Hill. The proposed Job Plan (up to 8 PAs) is attached but could potentially be increased to 10 PAs, subject to review within 3 months of appointment. The On-Call commitment will depend on the predominant skill set (diagnostic vs interventional radiology) and the need to maintain and develop skills after appointment. Working for our organisation

1. Together with colleagues, provide a high-quality care service to patients, including all aspects of treatment and management for the proper functioning of the Care Group. 2. Share responsibility for providing 24/7 cover for the Unit on a rota basis, including covering colleagues’ annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract. 3. Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues. 4. Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties, contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives. 5. Be responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group’s management team where part of the service structure. 6. Contribute to the Care Group’s research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework. 7. Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths. 8. Contribute to Care Group business planning and service development discussions with internal and external partners. 9. Ensure activities are conducted within the contracted level of service and operating plan. 10. Provide professional leadership for all staff in the specialty, encouraging post-qualification professional education and training. 11. Work with colleagues to maintain productivity and staff job satisfaction, including involvement in peer and junior colleague appraisals. 12. Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director. 13. Comply with infection prevention and control policies (hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environment and food hygiene). 14. Prepare for and undertake protective interventions aligned with evidence-based practice and patient safety. 15. Qualifications & Higher Education
Registerable medical qualification FRCR or equivalent Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD(Res), PhD) CCT or equivalent Registration and Training and Experience
Wide experience in all aspects of radiology in the UK, culminating towards award of CCT or equivalent Full registration with GMC with licence to practice Experience in paediatric Hepatobiliary radiology and/or interventional radiology Administration
Experience in day-to-day organisation of radiology services in a busy hospital Familiarity with the current structure of the UK National Health Service and awareness of recent initiatives and changes Management and Leadership
Experience in multi-disciplinary team working Ability to demonstrate leadership within multidisciplinary teams Management course and/or qualification Audit and Quality Improvement
Understanding of medical audit and quality improvement principles Ability to lead change Research and Publications
Experience in supporting clinical research Relevant radiology research experience Publications of relevant reviews or case reports Teaching
