Summary

This position is for an Infectious Disease Physician who will serve as a member and advisor of the Infection Control Program at Mountain Home VAMC. The role is 80% clinical and 20% administrative, providing inpatient and outpatient consultation services. The position reports to the Section Chief of Infectious Diseases, Chief of Medicine Service, and Chief of Staff.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the qualification standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements

U.S. Citizenship:

Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.

Medical Degree:

Doctor of medicine or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the VA.

Licensure:

Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.

Residency Training:

Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs with verified practice experience.

Residents:

Enrolled residents may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers under supervision.

English Proficiency:

Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:

Minimum five years of infectious disease experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

As per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Duties

Provide diagnosis and treatment of adult patients with infectious diseases such as resistant infections, travel-related illnesses, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, Lyme disease, and hepatitis B and C.

Offer outpatient treatment and inpatient consultation services.

Perform physical examinations, review patient data, and order diagnostic studies.

Document observations and patient condition changes.

Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Follow VA policies, maintain BLS certification, and possess computer skills for CPRS data entry.

Maintain valid medical licensure.

Supervise advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and other staff as appropriate.

Establish professional relationships within and outside the medical center, including providing telehealth consultations.

Participate in quality of care activities, peer review, and performance improvement initiatives.

Attend meetings, trainings, and fulfill continuing medical education requirements.

Meet VA SAIL metrics and performance standards.

Additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
