The Department of Anesthesiology offers a unique opportunity for a Medical Director of the Pre Anesthesia Assessment clinic. The expectation of UW Health Medical Directors is to provide leadership to their program/area(s) that results in the consistent and successful delivery of “Remarkable Healthcare” that is high quality, cost efficient, and delivered in a way that is highly satisfying for patients, providers, and staff. Medical Directors are expected to develop and demonstrate all UW Health Leadership Competencies and lead within their program/area(s) using the UW Health Way. Each Medical Director has particular areas of emphasis for their role but ensuring the provision of “Remarkable Healthcare” is a shared responsibility. In support of delivering “Remarkable Healthcare”, Medical Directors promote excellence in both culture and performance management. Medical Directors are expected to perform standard work that supports this achievement. Each Medical Director will work with their administrative partners and/or leader to establish and maintain a culture that values and embraces the team-based care model. This partnership will create a work environment that is patient centered, values each team member as uniquely important, is collegial, collaborative, and promotes job satisfaction and retention. Each partnership will maintain in-depth knowledge of their area’s performance on key measures as defined by organizational leadership. The partners will identify opportunities for improvement, maintain an active action plan, and use the UW Health Way to drive changes that improve performance in needed areas. Key Responsibilities and Duties

Directs the deployment of a clinical information system and other information technology resources within medical services Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees Ensures compliance with standards and requirements of accrediting organizations and governmental compliance Serves as a clinical resource to providers throughout the division Evaluates and responds to patient concerns and complaints Supports the development, measurement, and achievement of performance standards for quality, service, efficiency, and effectiveness for all programs and services Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives for medical services to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan Department

Established in 1927 by Ralph M. Waters, the department is the first academic anesthesiology department in the United States. It is committed to clinical care, education, and research, and to the success and well-being of teams. We provide comprehensive anesthesiology, critical care, and pain management services; educate the next generation of anesthesiologists and clinical anesthetists; and support basic, translational, and clinical science in anesthesiology. Negotiable, 12 month Required Qualifications

Board-certified or board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiologists by start date of position Completion of a US Anesthesiology residency by the start date of the position; must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges Depth of understanding of preoperative assessment and perioperative management of surgical patients Effective leadership abilities; record of initiating change and innovation; strategic thinking, planning, and problem solving; superior communication skills Effective human relations abilities to promote teamwork and ensure patient satisfaction and engagement Ability to succeed in a complex environment with diffuse and ambiguous decision-making A high degree of professionalism and competency in dealing with a variety of individuals Conflict management and resolution skills Driven to improve patient experience, outcomes, quality and safety while advancing education and research missions Preferred Qualifications
