Overview

Director of Finance and Administration, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – Stanford University, lab of Dr. Charles Yu. The position involves management of financial and administrative functions to support research on treatment of blindness using electronic ocular implants. Responsibilities

Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Assist in the production of small ocular implants. Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; suggest modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with a senior researcher. Review literature to stay current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research. Contribute to publication of findings as needed; participate in preparation of procedures, presentations, and proposals. Support general lab maintenance; manage stock, chemical inventory and safety records; provide general lab support as needed. Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)

General understanding of scientific principles; demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge to problem solve work. Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn software, databases, and scientific applications. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete detailed work accurately. Certifications & Licenses

None Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp, manipulate, use computer, lift and move objects weighing over 40 pounds; push/pull as needed. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders; may require lifting up to 50 pounds. Must have corrected vision; ability to work in dusty, dirty, and odorous environments; repetitive motion may be required. Reasonable accommodation will be provided as required by law. Working Conditions

May involve work in environments where animals are used for teaching and research. May require handling hazardous materials and infectious agents; PPE will be provided as needed. May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements. Location & Compensation

Location: Stanford, CA Expected pay range: $32.58 to $38.48 per hour. Stanford provides a pay range representing a good-faith estimate of compensation for a position; actual pay is determined by factors including scope, qualifications, budget, and market considerations.
