Overview
Job Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for the provision of speech therapy services within their individual scope of clinical competence. Services provided span across inpatient and outpatient, including early intervention and physician clinics. The SLP upholds professional standards and promotes quality in practice. The SLP performs duties for an assigned caseload with an emphasis on comprehensive care, develops professional skills, shares expertise within the department, may supervise students in clinical studies, and handles administrative tasks related to patient care services required for regulatory and organizational compliance. Responsibilities
Provide professional speech-language pathology services in accordance with standards established by the profession and other regulatory requirements. Select appropriate evaluation tools, administer, and interpret findings correctly. Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with patients, families, doctors, third-party payers, and other professionals. Ensure treatments are safe and effective. Demonstrate cost effectiveness by using extenders (aides) and materials appropriately. Serve as an effective team leader and maintain a family-friendly approach. Demonstrate knowledge of hospital and community resources; develop education materials as needed. Act as an effective educator and adapt to the family’s needs and comprehension. Document patient care thoroughly and on time; ensure compliance with department, organizational, state, and federal regulations. Communicate with all appropriate members of the patient’s team; proactively close communication loops. Ensure referrals are appropriate and follow up as necessary. Function at the role-model level with respect to Team Leader and Team member roles. Advocate for patients as needed, going above and beyond. Complete letters of medical necessity and develop and monitor care plans. Complete daily billing activities and participate in department, team, and committee meetings. Present and attend case presentations and in-services; participate in educational activities for other departments, the hospital, and the community. Provide supervision and training to allied health professional students. What we need from you
Education:
Master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science or equivalent required. Related Work Experience:
Graduate clinical practicum required; pediatric practicum experience and hospital experience preferred. Licensure/Certification:
Current Illinois licensure (or license pending); ASHA CCC in early intervention preferred, eligible for EI evaluation credential. Specialized Knowledge & Skills:
Communicates effectively; reflects the values of La Rabida in all interactions; demonstrates accountability, problem-solving, and leadership skills; bilingual skills (Spanish & English) preferred. CPR Required:
Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted. Compensation
Pay Range:
$72,000 - $90,000 What you will receive
