Overview
The Chief Pharmacy Officer is an executive position responsible for comprehensive strategic and operational pharmacy services leadership for Providence Health System. The Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) leads the transformation of pharmacy services across all divisions within the health system, delivering safe, effective, high-value and accountable pharmaceutical services across the continuum to ensure affordability, patient experience and health outcomes. The CPO functions as a member of the Providence clinical senior executive leadership team, responsible for developing and implementing a high-performance delivery system. This role can be located in Seattle, WA; Irvine, CA; or Portland, OR. Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Executive - Clinical Shared Services, build effective relationships system-wide with pharmacy and operational leaders to achieve pharmacy strategic objectives and define the structure of the pharmacy organization to meet goals. Lead a system pharmacy governance council with regional pharmacy leaders, providing strategic direction and priorities in coordination with Providence clinical strategy. Participate in Providence leadership councils to ensure the voice of pharmacy is integrated in planned work across the system. Maintain high employee morale and positive relationships to achieve high employee satisfaction and excellent patient care delivery; develop management staff to build a high-performing team. Lead the Providence Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, including charter compliance, meeting development, membership, and maintenance; coordinate with Clinical Care and Personalized Health for Clinical Review Committees as needed. Develop and maintain a high-performing Providence St. Joseph Formulary for the system through the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Provide consultative expertise on pharmacy technology investments and guide regional and system decisions; use the pharmacy governance council to justify and deploy technology-related decisions. Sanction cross-functional workgroups to assess technology needs and secure leadership support for implementation across the system. Partner with Informatics, regional pharmacy directors, and other stakeholders to implement technology that supports triple-aim measures at the enterprise level. Oversee the system-wide pharmacy supply chain to maximize economies of scale, align formulary and business decisions, and manage contracts with suppliers and manufacturers in coordination with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Provide strategic oversight for medication management quality initiatives and champion a culture of patient and staff safety across regional pharmacy units. Support regional leaders in strengthening medication safety programs and participate in system-level committees addressing medication safety priorities. Establish and maintain relationships with colleges of pharmacy and support residency development and student opportunities at Providence facilities. Develop and maintain a robust workforce development program, including career ladders for technicians, pharmacists, and leadership roles; collaborate with HR to hire, retain, and grow a diverse pharmacy workforce. Collaborate with finance and executive leadership to ensure sustainability and growth of pharmaceutical services; provide guidance on financial management, budgeting, and labor planning. Support population health initiatives and patient care initiatives that involve pharmacists within the organization. Qualifications
The appropriate candidate will possess an RPh or PharmD degree with an unrestricted license, plus ten years of pharmacy management experience in hospital, health plan, or medical group settings, including staff accountability and a proven track record of results. Additional Qualifications Sought
Experience in pharmaceutical contracting, P&T committee organization, and pharmacy integration in clinical practice. Training in negotiations and communications; familiarity with process improvement in clinical settings. Leadership and communication skills proven within clinical settings. About Providence
