Geospatial Analyst

In this role, you'll create and deliver high-quality geospatial data products that support city operations, guide data-driven decisions, and help achieve department and citywide goals. Required knowledge, experience, and training includes an associate's degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, cartography, or a related field, and two years of experience using GIS software in the design and production of thematic maps and other applications, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Licensing and other requirements include a valid state-issued driver's license. Special requirements include passing City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation, and a driving record check.
Conducts research, analysis, collection, translation, creation, quality assurance and control and maintenance of data within multiple databases for use in the production and modification of a variety of digital and hard copy Geographic Information System (GIS) information products. Performs GIS data design, development, maintenance and manipulation of internal and third-party geospatial data products related to city business needs. Investigates and verifies data from internal and external sources for compliance with city standards and appropriateness for use and inclusion into the city's GIS. Maintains data maintenance procedures and metadata documents, ensuring data integrity and compliance with city GIS data standards. Performs complex geospatial analysis on existing data to generate statistics, discover correlating information, solve problems or make recommendations in support of city services. Designs, creates, maintains and updates maps, drawings, plans, spreadsheets, data files and documentation for a wide variety of city uses. Coordinates, designs and produces a variety of maps and other graphic representations displaying layers, attribute data and geospatial analysis using cartographic techniques to represent spatial data. Enters attribute data pertaining to specific features into relational databases. Provides spatial data and analysis services to other city departments as assigned. Resolves end-user problems related to GIS data. Provides city GIS users with support in the use of GIS software. Assists with enterprise and department-level GIS planning and coordination. Participates in department-specific GIS coordination meetings. Develops training manuals and procedures as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
