NICU RN Details

  • Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel RN Contract)
  • Location: Charleston, SC 29401 (South Carolina nursing jobs)
  • Healthcare Setting: Level IV NICU, 82-bed unit
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 10/6/2025 – End: 1/5/2026)
  • Shifts: Rotating 12-hour shifts (3x12 per week), days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) and nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period; holiday rotation
  • Floating: Required within nursing scope to meet facility needs
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4 depending on acuity
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $1530 - $1640

NICU RN Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Level IV NICU RN experience (Level III considered case-by-case)
  • Active South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact Registered Nurse License (must be active prior to start)
  • BLS and NRP certifications required
  • Advanced NICU nursing skills: ventilator management, arterial and central line care, neonatal resuscitation, care for neonates
  • Preferred: Experience with ECMO/CRRT, neonatal surgical conditions, and palliative care
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted

NICU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to neonates and families in a Level IV NICU
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive medical and surgical care
  • Administer medications, manage ventilators, and provide nutritional and respiratory support
  • Monitor and document patient status, respond to emergencies, and participate in palliative and home monitoring programs
  • Float to other nursing units within scope as needed
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and safety standards
