Position Overview This position is located in the Children Services section. Examples of Duties The primary purpose of this position is to supervise workers as they provide Protective Services and Foster Care Services within Children's Services. When children cannot remain safely with family of origin, the plan of care may change to provide permanency in other out-of-home placements, to include adoptive placement. This position may also be responsible for supervising the group home to include staff and this position may be responsible for the ESSA/GAP programs, the DJJ liaison and the child and family facilitator positions.
The majority of this worker's time is spent insuring continuity of services to children and families, for monitoring worker contact with children and families, and for insuring immediate response to children and families in crisis. This worker will ensure that the unit structure operates in such a way that workers are able to complete administrative tasks associated with their job requirement to include "protected time" when necessary. The supervisor in this position must review and participate in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to intake, assessments, in-home services, placement of children in foster care, case transfer, dictation format, etc. Because state and federal mandates must be met, policies and procedures developed must incorporate such mandates. This worker must participate in setting both programmatic and operational goals for their unit and the Children's Services Section. Goal planning is critical in such areas as staff development, in-service training, and service provision. Assisting workers in setting priorities is an integral part of the supervisor's responsibility as it pertains to protection, placement, and permanency for children served in the Children's Services Division.
This position currently supervises an in-home services team. However, the person in this position will be willing and able to supervise in any rea of child welfare, depending on business needs. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
