CVICU Nursing Job Details

• Location: University Hospital, Madison, WI 53792
• Unit: Cardiothoracic Surgery & Transplant CVICU (27 beds)
• Employment Type: Travel RN contract
• Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 10/20/2025 – End: 1/19/2026)
• Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:30), every other weekend, some holidays required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2200-$2260
• Patient Population: Adult patients
• Facility: Magnet-designated, ranked #1 in Wisconsin

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care CVICU nursing experience (required)
• Proficiency with NextStage CVVH machine (required)
• Basic Arrhythmia and Telemetry experience; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
• Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable units preferred
• Active Wisconsin RN license or compact nursing license (must be in hand at submittal)
• BLS & ACLS certifications (American Heart Association required)
• Travel RN experience required
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Epic EMR charting system experience required
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)

CVICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, heart and lung transplants, and complex cardiac medical cases
• Operate and monitor advanced equipment: CRRT (NxStage), IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO
• Manage and monitor cardiac conditions: CABG, valve repairs/replacements, aneurysm repairs, heart failure, arrhythmia management, post-surgical care
• Interpret telemetry and arrhythmias, administer emergency medications, titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, PT, RT, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy
• Float to other nursing units as needed
• Maintain infection prevention protocols and ensure safe patient care practices
• Participate in planned and emergent procedures, supported by charge RNs and rapid response nurses
