CVICU RN Job Details – Madison, Wisconsin

• Location: Madison, WI 53792 (Wisconsin nursing jobs)
• Setting: Cardiothoracic Surgery/Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 11/3/2025 – End: 2/2/2026)
• Shift: Day/Evening, 12-hour shifts (07:00 – 19:30), every other weekend, some holidays, no call
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Ratio: 1-2 patients per nurse
• Facility: University Hospital – top-ranked teaching and referral center
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2200-$2260

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Wisconsin or compact state RN license (must be in hand at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care CVICU RN experience within the last 3 years (required)
• Previous travel nurse experience (required)
• Experience with NextStage CVVH machine (required)
• Basic Arrhythmia and Telemetry experience (must pass Telemetry test prior to start)
• Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable units (preferred)
• BLS & ACLS certifications (American Heart Association required)
• Epic EMR charting experience (required)
• Trauma Level I experience (required)
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

CVICU RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to adults undergoing cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplants, and advanced cardiac procedures
• Utilize advanced technology and specialized equipment (CRRT/NxStage, IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO, and more)
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage ventilators, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
• Float to other nursing units as needed based on staffing requirements
• Participate in planned and emergent procedures, adapting to changing patient acuity throughout the shift
• Maintain accurate documentation using Epic electronic medical records (EMR)
