CVICU RN Job Details – Madison, Wisconsin
- Location: Madison, WI 53792 (Wisconsin nursing jobs)
- Setting: Cardiothoracic Surgery/Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 11/3/2025 – End: 2/2/2026)
- Shift: Day/Evening, 12-hour shifts (07:00 – 19:30), every other weekend, some holidays, no call
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1-2 patients per nurse
- Facility: University Hospital – top-ranked teaching and referral center
- Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2200-$2260
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Wisconsin or compact state RN license (must be in hand at submission)
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care CVICU RN experience within the last 3 years (required)
- Previous travel nurse experience (required)
- Experience with NextStage CVVH machine (required)
- Basic Arrhythmia and Telemetry experience (must pass Telemetry test prior to start)
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable units (preferred)
- BLS & ACLS certifications (American Heart Association required)
- Epic EMR charting experience (required)
- Trauma Level I experience (required)
- Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
CVICU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to adults undergoing cardiothoracic surgery, heart and lung transplants, and advanced cardiac procedures
- Utilize advanced technology and specialized equipment (CRRT/NxStage, IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO, and more)
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage ventilators, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
- Float to other nursing units as needed based on staffing requirements
- Participate in planned and emergent procedures, adapting to changing patient acuity throughout the shift
- Maintain accurate documentation using Epic electronic medical records (EMR)
