Job Overview:
The perfusionist maintains circulatory and respiratory support during open heart surgery. Responsibilities include setting up and operating the extracorporeal circuit, physiological monitoring, auto transfusion equipment, point of care testing, and maintaining perfusion records. The perfusionist also operates advanced life support systems such as intra-aortic balloon pumps, ventricular assist devices, ECMO (adult, pediatric, neonatal), and cardiac laser technology. Competency to scrub and utilize the blower/mister is required.
Qualifications:
The perfusionist must be a graduate of a CAHEA-approved perfusion training program and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, with examination within two years of eligibility. If not certified, the candidate must have completed at least seventy-five primary cardiac perfusions per year for the past two years. All orientation programs must be completed, and a valid perfusion license for New Jersey is required.

Essential Functions:
Assist the primary perfusionist and check all rooms, remaining readily available.
Assess lab data promptly and complete perfusion documentation in CAOS system.
Conduct cardiopulmonary bypass safely, in coordination with the surgeon, and communicate effectively about patient status.
Prepare and maintain extracorporeal and cardioplegia circuits efficiently.
Monitor and manage patient’s medical status during CPB, making adjustments based on lab data.
