Overview

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for performing inspections and audits to ensure consistency of workmanship and quality in accordance with AWS D1.1, D1.2 or D1.6 weld codes or company policies. Additional weld codes may be required on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide code compliance of welding by verifying measurements, examinations, and tests to verify processes and materials against requirements and quality standards.
  • Mentor, train, and support welding personnel in various welding processes and methods to weld all types of metals and perform complete part fabrication in compliance with company quality standards.
  • Reject items that do not conform to applicable standards or requirements.
  • Coordinate with appropriate personnel/departments to account for approval or rejection of tank parts or components.
  • Provide applicable certificates of conformance and maintain records through forms such as Job Cards, Work Orders, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Read and use blueprints to verify layout and dimensional conformance of tank components.
  • Maintain NCR information in the NCR log and compile inspection records for data book completion when required by the job.
  • Maintain code compliance such as welder qualifications and verify welders are qualified to use welding procedures; re-qualify welders as needed to maintain conformance to weld codes.
  • Develop or revise welding procedures or qualification records as required.
  • Respond to Field and customer Non-conformance reports and requests for information related to welding.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area and follow prescribed safety procedures to support a safety culture.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Google Suite, etc.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certificate.
  • ASNT Level 2 certification is preferred.
  • Proficient in weld testing according to applicable weld code requirements, including but not limited to GMAW, FCAW, SAW, or TIG processes, including WPS and WPQ.
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications; strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and establish healthy working relationships.
  • Willingness to work additional hours to meet deadlines and travel approximately 20% of the time, primarily between plants.
