Position Summary: To be fully engaged in providing security services to ensure the safety and security of associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for internal and external security patrols on foot or in vehicle of facility assigned, including Emergency Department of hospital facility, to deter criminal activity and misconduct.
- Respond to emergencies/disasters and remain on property until terminated; make appropriate campus notifications and coordinate law enforcement, medical and/or fire assistance.
- Proactively watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- Serve as first responder for emergency codes, alarms, and other emergent situations to escort visitors and contractors, secure ingress/egress, and protect private information.
- Sound alarms or call police/fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Warn violators of rule infractions (e.g., loitering, smoking, carrying prohibited articles).
- Monitor entrances and exits and permit only authorized persons to enter property.
- Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure authorized removal of property.
- Conduct patient escorts, patient watches, and safety escorts; assist and/or transport deceased to morgue.
- Complete required shift logs and reports; comply with site post orders and Health First policies and procedures.
- Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; assist associates, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Work designated alternate hours and perform other responsibilities as needed.
- Maintain required certifications, licensing, weapon qualifications, and training to achieve professional competency as appropriate for the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Must meet at least one of the following education or experience requirements: Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy; Associate’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice; Active Military (four-year term of service minimum); Law Enforcement experience; Elite Military Forces, Military Police, or Combat Arms.
- Licensure: Class “D” Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida; Class “G” Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida; Valid Driver’s License and clean Motor Vehicle Record.
- Certification: At least one of the following within 30 days of start date: American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR (CPR AED) completion; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
- Work Experience: One (1) year of verifiable security officer experience in lieu of education.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days; physical ability to deal with patients in crisis; ability to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and roof-top helipad; ability to operate radio/telephone equipment; strong communication and customer service skills; active listening; ability to assess situations quickly and identify critical issues; attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Physically agile; ability to walk, stand, run, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, or crouch for majority of shift.
- Heavy work with lifting/moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
- Must be able to move in various positions and environments, including tight and confined spaces; may lift/ambulate people or equipment up to 90% of shift.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, air contaminants, dirt, grease, or water; may handle biohazards following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Operate manual and motorized equipment used in transportation of materials; may travel to facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may use personal vehicle.
