Qualifications
- Credentials: CLEET Certification or similar credentials
- Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as criminal justice or education or related experience
Training or Experience Required: Several years of experience in school safety, security, or emergency management.
Job Summary
The Security Consultant serves as a safety and security advisor for the school district, leveraging experience in law enforcement (or comparable experience) to evaluate, strengthen, and oversee security measures across all campuses. This individual provides expert guidance on emergency preparedness, crisis response, and day-to-day school safety practices, ensuring a secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position is designed to bring the knowledge and expertise of a seasoned security professional into the school setting, ensuring the highest possible standards of safety and preparedness.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Law enforcement experience or comparable experience with a proven record of service.
- Strong knowledge of public safety practices, crisis management, and school security protocols.
- Experience in training, public speaking, or working with educators and youth preferred.
- Ability to assess risks, develop practical solutions, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with staff, students, parents, and the community.
Essential Job Functions (Performance Responsibilities)
- Conduct security assessments of school buildings, grounds, and procedures to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential risks.
- Develop, implement, and update school safety and emergency response plans in alignment with local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Provide training for staff, students, and administrators on crisis management, intruder response, lockdown procedures, and general safety practices.
- Act as a liaison between the school district and local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies.
- Advise school leaders on best practices in security technology, including surveillance, access control, and emergency communication systems.
- Assist with planning and conducting safety drills (lockdown, fire, intruder, evacuation).
- Review and recommend policies regarding visitor management, threat assessment, and student safety.
- Organizes security personnel for home events.
- Provide on-call expertise in the event of an emergency or security incident.
- Prepare regular reports and recommendations for district leadership and the Board of Education.

- Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills to elicit information, resolve problems and provide information as requested.
- Requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce personal accident or injury, inclusive of the District Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns.
- Creativity, initiative, and effective problem solving are important to the success of the position.
Supervision exercised: None.
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. ( remaining days in 260-day contract)
- Part-time or consulting role, with flexible hours based on school needs.
- On-site presence at school campuses as needed, with availability for emergency response.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Shawnee Board Policy on evaluation of personnel.
