Society for Neuroscience, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, 73116
Overview
Vice Chair for Research – Neurology The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine’s Department of Neurology is recruiting a visionary Vice Chair for Research (VCR) at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (tenure-eligible or non-tenure track). The VCR will be the department’s senior scientific leader, crafting and executing a multi-year research roadmap that advances basic, translational, and clinical discovery in stroke, epilepsy, cognitive neurology, neuro-immunology, and bioinformatics. The VCR will report to the Chair, maintain an active externally funded program, and mentor faculty and trainees toward sustained NIH, DoD, industry, and philanthropic support. The role includes oversight of laboratories, clinical-trial units, regulatory compliance, and cultivation of interdisciplinary partnerships across the OU Health Sciences Center. Recently, the department welcomed a new Chair of Neurology with a forward-thinking vision and commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and research. This leadership change signifies a new chapter for the department to strengthen clinical programs, expand research initiatives, and enhance educational opportunities for residents, fellows, and students. With the support of OU Health Physicians and the OU Health System, the department aims to continue its trajectory of excellence as a leader in neurological care for Oklahoma and beyond. Responsibilities and qualifications
Candidates must hold an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD in Neurology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline and demonstrate national reputation through sustained peer‑reviewed funding and high‑impact publications. The role requires proven success in leading interdisciplinary teams, mentoring early‑career investigators, and—if clinically active—eligibility for Oklahoma medical licensure and ABPN certification. The VCR will maintain and grow an externally funded research program, oversee laboratories and clinical-trial units, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations across the OU Health Sciences Center. The position includes a competitive salary, a customizable start‑up package with dedicated wet/dry laboratory space, and commensurate protected research effort. Location and lifestyle
Located in the heart of Oklahoma City, the University of Oklahoma provides an opportunity for professionals to work and live in a dynamic, economically robust environment. Oklahoma City is known for affordability and a welcoming community. The city offers cultural, recreational, and social amenities, including Bricktown, arts venues, and professional and collegiate sports teams, contributing to a high quality of life for faculty and families.
