Role Summary This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical, and other pain-producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients.
Responsibilities
Documents patient procedures and incidents
Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia
Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques
Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families
Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and adapting explanations of services or procedures
Qualifications
Education : Required – Master’s degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
Work Experience : Required – None
Certifications :
State of Louisiana license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) :
Must have computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficient with Windows applications
Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences
Other Duties

Remains knowledgeable on current laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to the assigned area; ensures compliance
Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct
Physical and Environmental Demands
Medium workload: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally; 10 to 25 pounds frequently; occasional greater than negligible up to 10 pounds
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
Must be able to work a flexible schedule (including 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call)
Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues in patient care areas
The incumbent works in patient care areas and with potential exposure to infectious materials.
