This job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain-producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Works in a collaborative model including but not limited to residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients. Responsibilities

Documents patient procedures and incidents. Assesses patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia. Ensures patient safety and administers anesthesia following accepted practice techniques. Acts as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families. Participates in department quality assurance initiatives and activities of professional development. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy considerations, introductions, explanations, permissions, and communication style. Performs other related duties as required. Education

Required – Master’s degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Work Experience

Required – None. Certifications

Required – License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice. Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Computer skills and data entry proficiency for patient information. Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication and the ability to present information clearly to varying levels within the patient care process. Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability). Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work; standing for prolonged periods; exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; potential occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste in a healthcare setting.
