Title: Director of Accounting
Location: Walnut Creek
Oversee financial operations ensuring accurate financial reporting and implement effective financial strategies; work collaboratively with operations, asset management, business intelligence and other company departments. Owns and takes responsibility for all aspects of the accounting enterprise and fully supports all facets of the company operations. Applies expertise in forecasting, cash flow management, accounts payable and receivable, and account reconciliation. Assist in establishing policies, programs and practices to ensure the company’s continuous sound financial structure. Oversee and manage accounting department staff and other resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to the following:
1. Oversee and manage daily accounting operations including accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations. 2. Perform complex projects designed to improve financial reporting and analysis or enhance operational efficiencies; develop procedures to ensure processes are performed efficiently, clear audit trails are maintained, and proper internal controls are in place; ensure compliance with GAAP principles. Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles. 3. Lead a team of Property Accountants and other resources in the performance of monthly financial analysis for each property; prepare accurate monthly financial reports and daily reconciliations. 4. Guide and direct the actions of an Accounts Payable team, ensuring timeline and milestones are achieved, efficiencies are maintained, and vendors partners are properly managed. 5. Monitor and analyze accounting data; meet financial accounting objectives. 6. Manage the preparation of all owner distributions (monthly, semi-monthly, quarterly, and annually). 7. Oversee filing of quarterly sales tax, quarterly lending report, personal property taxes and secured property taxes. 8. Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions. 9. Develop and maintain internal control and effective accounting system and policies for the set-up of new clients. 10. Review and sign off on completed reporting packages, supporting workpapers, reconciliations, etc. 11. Work cross-functionally to ensure the unique terms of each management agreement are appropriately reflected in financial reporting. Assist Asset Management team with budgets and financial reporting. 12. Develop, motivate and assist accounting staff, and identify training needs, track performance, coach, prepare year-end or quarterly performance reviews. 13. Prepare and present periodic financial exhibits and strategies to leadership to help guide executive decision making. 14. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting analysis and reporting, preferably in property management/real-estate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, Yardi or related accounting software. Experience working directly with clients and the ability to confidently discuss cash flows, bad debt, and other operational and financial metrics. Possess an in-depth knowledge of accounting methods (cash accruals, tax laws and GAAP); strong understanding of fund structures, investment strategies, and financial markets. Proven leadership and relationship-building skills, ability to engage, motivate and influence accounting department staff and other stakeholders. Flexible self-starter and the ability to multitask, and work within an ambiguous, fast-paced environment while driving toward solutions.
