Overview
Pharmacy Tech/Cashier – Full Time, 37.5 hours/week. The Pharmacy Tech/Cashier will support the pharmacist in labeling and filling prescriptions, assist patients with dropping off and picking up medications, and enter orders into the pharmacy computer system for review. This role includes cashier duties, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with confidentiality standards and pharmacy regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist in labeling, filling, and verifying prescriptions.
- Provide customer service by assisting patients with dropping off and picking up prescriptions.
- Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system for pharmacist review.
- Verify that patients receive the correct prescriptions.
- Perform cashier duties, including processing credit cards, cash, and check transactions.
- Assist with receipt, storage, distribution, and ordering of pharmacy supplies and retail products.
- Screen calls and triage information requests for the pharmacist.
- Work with insurance carriers to secure payment and resolve billing issues.
- Prepare and maintain medication inventory records.
Job Duties and Essential Functions
- Assist pharmacist in labeling and filling prescriptions; assist patients in dropping off and picking up prescriptions. Enter medication orders into pharmacy computer system for pharmacist’s review. Provide extraordinary service to both internal and external customers. All staff are expected to arrive at work as they are scheduled and at their station ready to meet our patients’ needs at the assigned time. (Essential)
- Obtain current demographic and insurance information for prescriptions. Establish and maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients. (Essential)
- Greet customers upon entry to the department. Provide excellent customer service while receiving payment by credit card, check, cash, voucher or other approved payments. Issues receipts, refunds, credits or change due to customers. (Essential)
- Screen calls for Pharmacists. Receive and triage information requests; research and provide information where appropriate. (Essential)
- Maintain proper inventory, storage, and security conditions for drugs and over the counter items. Processes Pharmacy Invoices and orders product for the retail pharmacy. (Essential)
Qualifications
Minimum Education and ExperienceRequires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred QualificationsGraduation from accredited training program and at least 1 year experience, Certification (Pharmacy Technician). Experience in healthcare environment and direct customer service. Experience using medical office software (EHR/billing). Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with basic accounting principles and HIPAA, insurance filing, medical terminology, and payment processing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating procedures; medical terminology; ability to read, write, and follow detailed instructions; arithmetic; inventory control; effective communication.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and work under pressure.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and healthcare accounting practices; ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and customers; ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations; maintain confidentiality (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.).
Work Schedule and Benefits
Hours per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule: Standard schedule 8:30am – 5:00pm; flexible schedule as needed.
