Overview

Position Summary
The Pharmacy Tech/Cashier will support the pharmacist in labeling and filling prescriptions, assist patients with dropping off and picking up medications, and enter orders into the pharmacy computer system for review. This role includes verifying prescriptions, handling cashier operations such as processing cash, credit, and check payments, refunds, and financial reporting. The Pharmacy Tech/Cashier will assist with inventory control by receiving, storing, ordering, and distributing medications and supplies, as well as managing expired or discontinued products with proper documentation. The role also involves providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with confidentiality standards and pharmacy regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist in labeling, filling, and verifying prescriptions.
- Provide customer service by assisting patients with dropping off and picking up prescriptions.
- Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system for pharmacist review.
- Verify that patients receive the correct prescriptions.
- Perform cashier duties, including processing credit cards, cash, and check transactions.
- Assist with receipt, storage, distribution, and ordering of pharmacy supplies and retail products.
- Screen calls and triage information requests for the pharmacist.
- Work with insurance carriers to secure payment and resolve billing issues.
- Prepare and maintain medication inventory records.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from accredited training program and at least 1 year experience, Certification (Pharmacy Technician).
- Experience working in a healthcare environment and direct customer service.
- Experience using medical office software to include electronic health records/billing system.
- Working knowledge of general office software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Familiarity with and ability to apply basic accounting principles and critical thinking.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, insurance filing, medical terminology, and payment processing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating procedures, medical terminology, ability to read, write, and follow detailed written and oral instructions, and ability to perform arithmetic.
- Ability to control the distribution of product and maintain inventory records, communicate effectively, and work with parents, students, and staff members.
- Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and knowledge of customer service principles in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of accounting, auditing and bookkeeping principles in a healthcare setting and ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and customers, and to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations.
