Overview

The HR Specialist works collaboratively with HR, Payroll, Budget Office, campus constituents, and external vendors to facilitate HR systems employment-related transactions including hiring, onboarding, and other life cycle changes.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews HR system business processes and HR transactions, including but not limited to: hiring, onboarding, promotions, compensation changes, transfers, terminations, retirements, and other employment life cycle changes for primarily student employees, but will also gain experience supporting faculty and staff
  • Reviews employment transaction submissions to ensure accuracy and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Ensures compliance of Form I-9 employment eligibility verification, E-verify, and pre-employment background screening
  • Partners with other functional areas to ensure all tasks are completed throughout the employee life cycle process and across multiple HR system business processes.
  • Partners with the Payroll and Budget offices to process all payroll cycles in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Partners with teammates to educate campus on HR system functionality; responds to related inquiries and business processes in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develops strong working relationships with others within the organization to ensure efficient and effective problem-solving and problem resolution.
  • Responds to questions using knowledge based resources.
  • Performs information searches to create, use, and maintain knowledge base.
  • Resolve HR related matters and refer more complex issues to the Manager, Employment Solutions.
  • Utilizes various communication platforms to document questions, service requests, and resolutions.
  • Utilizes standard protocols and procedures to track and monitor responses to questions and transactions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize HR processes and workflows using Workday's functionalities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement system enhancements and drive operational excellence.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Associate’s degree with an understanding of human resources procedures, practices, policies, and laws, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • One to two years experience in Human Resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations regarding employment.
  • Highly organized
  • Proficiency in Workday, MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the internet and other relevant software or applications.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive HR information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily assignments and activities with minimal direction.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems.
  • Ability to interpret and advise on the application of governmental and University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in a higher education environment is preferred
  • Prior experience using Workday
