JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the supervisor/manager and a physician in the department, who is responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures, conducts sonographic procedures on assigned patients through the use of ultrasound diagnostic equipment. Leads diagnostic medical sonographers and assists in coordinating the operations of the department. Responsible for developing and maintaining diagnostic procedures and protocols as well as assisting in ensuring that all regulatory AIUM and Joint Commission standards are met. Participates in training of residents and ultrasound students. Does not supplant the physician in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis, but will assist in gathering sonographic and other medical data necessary to reach a medical diagnosis and decision. Shows a high degree of judgment and skill in use of sonographic equipment. Ensures that equipment is constantly functional and maintained for immediate use. Maintains records and reports on equipment, procedures performed and billing.

Perform duties in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, including Service Standards and Code of Conduct.

Assist in assuring department procedures and policies are current and followed; work is performed timely, accurately, and with high quality.

Ensure interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff are cooperative and courteous with high-quality information and service.

Assist in overseeing workflow, assignments, operational effectiveness, human resources, and resolution of technical and non-technical problems; participate in orientation and training of staff, students, residents and faculty.

Assist in service recovery and triage clinical urgency as appropriate.

Coordinate clinical activities and services; assist in staffing level decisions for the department.

Ensure equipment and accessories are maintained and functioning; notify supervisor of equipment problems and service calls; manage supply requirements and make recommendations on equipment purchases/maintenance/repair.

Maintain awareness of legal, risk management and accreditation standards; report unusual occurrences and complete required forms as needed.

Lead employees, residents and interns conducting ultrasound examinations.

Maintain quality assurance of ultrasound equipment and digital network.

Participate in national accreditation of the ultrasound department.

Update and maintain procedure manuals; act as a resource for staff on policies and procedures, with final approval from Practice Manager and Medical Director.

Perform administrative duties for coordinating and operating the diagnostic ultrasound department; assist in developing clinical and research protocols.

Perform Senior Sonographer duties in assigned area(s).

Report staffing, workflow, morale issues and recommend solutions; coordinate with other departments on patient/staff related problems.

Troubleshoot equipment, reboot, coordinate with service providers; demonstrate competency on all equipment and software (Siemens, GE, PACS, Click View, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Requirement met by License/Certification requirement.

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification:

CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer by Cardiovascular Credentialing International

or ARDMS by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area.

Knowledge of ultrasound physics and safe operation of ultrasound equipment.

Knowledge of ultrasound diagnostic procedures and instrumentation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary ranges may be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role and market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range. Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $85.91 to $97.42
